The Excitement–and the Mess–Build

There’s a lot going on at my house and the excitement—and the mess—build. Soon they will crescendo at nearly the same time. My hubby gets to come home this week and at the end of the week, I will be appearing at the Longview Literary Festival in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. The Festival is free and runs from 10 am to 5 pm, Friday, October 26th.

I’d say I’m cleaning house in preparation for hubby coming home but that’s not exactly true. Take a look.

Preparations

The Excitement and the Mess Build--in my house prior to Longview Literary Festival

My dining room has been converted to a workshop, staging area, and collections point. I wanted to do a little something special for my sales table at the Festival.

I'll be selling copies of my book at special prices for Longview Literary Festival

And being the overachiever whose OCD kicks in at every opportunity, things got a little out of hand.

Yup, those are two of my too-curious-for-their-own-good dogs in the crate in the lower right corner. They caused a couple of paint mishaps that could have been disastrous. Don’t worry. They will only be in there for a few more minutes. The product I’m using to paint the styrofoam head drys quickly.

Have I gone overboard? Definitely. Is it worth it? It’s been fun, stressful, and fun. Of course, I hope my table staging will draw attention. The objects I’ll be displaying have to do with people and events in my book.

My Schedule

I’ll be appearing in a panel on choosing names for characters, places, and other worlds at 10 am. My reading is at 1 pm. And I’ll be on a panel about collaborating with other writers at 3 pm.

Other great writers will be there. Check the list of participants.

We’ll be at the Cultural Arts Center. Need a map? Here’s one.

Won’t You Come?

Can you take part of your day and support this Festival with your attendance? If you do make it to the festival, stop by my table and say hi. Attendees get to see the final results of my mess. Plus, you’ll have the opportunity to buy my book at a special Festival price. Folks who have signed up for my newsletter will see the much anticipated book-selling table (surely one or two of you are anticipating it, right?) Yes, I’m actually going to put out a newsletter soon.

When did you last attend a book or literary festival? What did you enjoy most?

If you can’t attend the Festival but want to know more about my book, read an unsolicited review on Jennette Powell’s blog. If you’d like to buy my book, visit this page.  Or sign up for my newsletter in the upper right-hand corner of this blog or on this page. The excitement and the mess build until Friday. (Well, the mess may last a little longer. Thanks for hanging in there with me while I’ve been wading through it!)
